Octoberfest WrapUp

Hi everyone,
I know that you didn't all get the chance to come to the Octoberfest so I thought I would just e-mail some of my thoughts and would love to hear back from any of you. I thought the facility was first rate. There was plenty of warm up & riding area for the horses. The stabling was fine allowing us to have double stalls for the big horses and the indoor arena was really nice. It is climate controlled with plenty of stands and places for booths. We had a regional meeting at lunch and decided that next year's regionals (Colorado's turn to hold it) would be held there (Douglas County Fairgrounds in Castle Rock, CO) May 27 & 28th. I hope you will all mark that in your calendars.
The added class for green horses was really a success with 4 new horses in it. Horses are the backbone of this sport and if we want to grow, we need to keep bringing along new ones. So thanks so much to all the horse owners who keep working hard to keep our sport growing.
The classes and costumes this year were outstanding. We have many clubs in this region who are on the cutting edge in performance vaulting.
We had many parent volunteers who learned new jobs at this competition, announcing, gatekeeping, music, scorekeeping, scribing, & timing as well as raking and pooper scooping. Thanks to all of them. Parents are so important in this sport. A special thanks to Robin Bowman for putting together a terrific concession where many kids got the chance to learn how to make change without the benefit of a cash register that tells you how much change to give back.. We all owe a great deal of thanks to Shellane Fancher who together with her mother put together the best awards ceremony the region has ever seen.
Mostly, I would like to say that what I love about our region is the way we all come together to help each other. We, as a region, I believe are a very positive force in the vaulting world because we put our energies into having fun, getting along with each other, and helping each other. We don't spend our time carping about each other. It is important to respect each other for our differences as well as for our quality. As I finish my term as regional supervisor and hand over the job to Anna Schulte, I have confidence that Anna will help keep our region fun & friendly.
I would also like to acknowledge and personally thank Merry Cole who brought vaulting to region IV and has worked tirelessly over the years to keep it going. Vaulting has been an enormous influence in my family's life and without Merry we never would have discovered it. She is my personal role model who taught me what creativity really is and how kindness can really work to help kids have fun and learn at the same time. She is always there to help out, always reliable in a crisis, and always accepting. She is what I believe our region should be.
Hope all the competitors, coach's, longeurs, and parents had as much fun as I had at the competition. If you didn't, try smiling more next time and look for the humor in a situation instead of the rain.
Thanks again,
Noel Martonovich
